About Sabina Bashir

The teacher your child wishes they had - telling you what your child wishes you knew.

I was the child the school system couldn't reach. Thirty years later - I train the parents who are sitting where my mum once sat.

I know what it feels like to be the child who struggles. I know what it feels like to be the parent who tries everything and still feels lost.

I've been both. And that's why I do this.

I don't just tutor children. I train parents too - so you can teach your child all day long, not just one hour a week. Because parents were teachers first.

Sabina Bashir — The Parent Teacher
Why parents trust this work

30 years in classrooms. One daughter I removed from school. A lifetime of being the child nobody could explain it to.

I became a teacher because I wanted to be the person I never had. Someone who could explain it differently. Someone who didn't just repeat the same words louder when a child didn't understand.

I spent 30 years doing that in classrooms - teaching children aged 3 to 16, across mainstream and specialist settings. I hold an MSc in Psychology and have advanced study in child development and how children's brains develop. I have spent my career translating what I know about how children learn into language that parents can actually use at home.

I looked at what was really happening when children shut down, switched off, or decided they were just bad at it. And I watched their parents - trying everything, blaming themselves, not knowing that the gap wasn't in their child. It was in how the support at home was working.

Nobody teaches parents how to teach. Not one training day. Not one manual. I built The Parent Teacher because that gap needed filling.

30 Years Teaching

Classroom experience across ages 3–16. I know what schools expect and what they can't always give.

🧠

MSc in Psychology

I understand why children do what they do at that table. It's never just about the maths.

🏡

Home Educating Mum

I removed my own daughter from school, because the school environment doesn't suit every child. She's now thriving. I know both sides of this from the inside.

I Was That Child

Undiagnosed ADHD. Staring out of windows. Eventually becoming a teacher. I know how this story goes.

Why The Parent Teacher exists

Thirty years in classrooms showed me one thing clearly. The children who flourished weren't always the brightest. They weren't always the most tutored. They were the ones with an informed, confident parent at home.

Not a perfect parent. Not a qualified teacher. A parent who understood how their child learned - and knew how to help without making it worse.

Nobody teaches parents how to do that. Not one training day. Not one manual. Nothing.

That's the gap The Parent Teacher fills.
The story behind the work

I was that child. Staring out of the window. Not because I didn't care - because it moved too fast.

By the time I was still working through the first step, the class had already moved on. So I drifted. I learned how to look like I was listening. Everyone thought I wasn't trying. Eventually, I thought that too.

I had undiagnosed ADHD. Nobody knew. Nobody asked. They just repeated the same words I hadn't understood - only louder.

Eventually I became a teacher. I spent thirty years in classrooms watching children do exactly what I had done, and watching their parents carry exactly what my mum had carried. Trying everything. Blaming themselves. Not knowing that the problem wasn't their child.

My own daughter is the proof. I removed her from school at 7 because the system didn't suit her. She's 14 now. Writing her first novel - to be published this year. She regressed in the system - it undid all the work I did with her at home. She was just waiting for the right conditions.

Some children don't bloom on the system's timeline. That doesn't mean they won't bloom.

What makes this different

Any tutor can teach fractions. Nobody else has this combination.

Psychology

I understand why your child shuts down, switches off or says "I can't do it" before they've even tried. It's never just about the work. And once you understand what's happening underneath - everything changes.

Child Development

I know what's actually happening at each stage of your child's development. What their brain can and can't do yet. What's normal, what's a gap, and what just needs a different explanation.

Personal Story

I was the child. I was the teacher. I was the home educating mum. I know this from every angle, and I translate all of it into plain language you can use at the kitchen table tonight.

The mission

You don't need an expensive tutor. You just need to understand your child. That's what I teach you.

Because parents were teachers first. My job is to make sure you have everything you need to act on it.

What I give you

Teacher knowledge in kitchen table language

  • Why your child does what they do at homework time
  • How to explain it in a way that finally makes sense to them
  • What to do when the practice papers aren't working
  • How to support without damaging confidence or connection
  • What to notice when school says "fine" but you're not convinced
